OFIS Orders Roseville Auto Repair Shop
Owner to Stop Selling Illegal Auto Insurance Certificates
Michigan drivers warned that
certificates purchased from Ultimate Casualty Insurance are
invalid
9/27/06, Roseville, MI – The Office of
Financial and Insurance Services (OFIS) has issued a Cease
and Desist order against a Roseville, Michigan auto repair
shop for selling Michigan no-fault auto insurance certificates
without a license.
The Office of Financial and Insurance Services
(OFIS) has issued a Cease and Desist order against a Roseville,
Michigan auto repair shop for selling Michigan no-fault auto
insurance certificates without a license.
David Pearson, owner of Pearson Service Center
in Roseville, has been illegally selling bogus no-fault certificates
under the name Ultimate Casualty Insurance from his auto repair
shop.
Pearson provided OFIS with a list of 63 individuals
who purchased the bogus certificates between May 24, 2006
and September 20, 2006. OFIS has contacted all of the individuals
and urged them to immediately purchase valid auto insurance;
however, it is likely there are more drivers who are unaware
they have purchased illegal certificates.
"All drivers who bought a certificate
from Ultimate Casualty Insurance need to get proper auto coverage
immediately," OFIS Commissioner Linda A. Watters said.
"This bogus insurance will provide zero protection in
case of an accident."
The Pearson Service Center is licensed as an
auto repair facility through the Michigan Secretary of State.
OFIS has notified Secretary of State officials of the illegal
sales of no-fault certificates at the service center.
OFIS' website includes lists that can be checked
to verify if insurance companies, agencies and agents are
licensed. Consumers may also call OFIS toll-free at (877)
999-6442 to verify licensure over the phone.
